Use Animal Fur patterns in Reptile Skin
The Animal Fur filter can create a wide variety of patterns. Many of these patterns occur in the natural world in more than just mammal fur. This tutorial will show how to use Animal Fur and Reptile Skin together to reproduce some specific reptile skins.
Before we begin, download and double-click on the four settings files included with this tutorial (see below). Then the settings will be available when you run the Animal Fur and Reptile Skin filters. Two settings are provided for each filter.
Python
We will create the color pattern with Animal Fur.
1. Create a new image.
2. Start the Animal Fur filter and go to the Settings tab. In the User Settings list in the lower left of the window, click on Python Pattern.
3. Note that you cannot see a lot of hair detail. Since we just need the overall pattern, the Hair Length and Shadow Strength are turned all the way down in the Python Pattern setting.
4. Click OK to apply the pattern to your image. It should look like this:
5. Now start the Reptile Skin filter and go to the Settings tab. In the User Settings list in the lower left of the window, click on Python Scales.
6. Click OK and you should now have a pretty realistic looking image of Python skin. It should look like this:
