macOS Big Sur and Catalina compatibility

Exposure Software tests products with all new host program versions. Apple macOS Big Sur and Catalina include changes that may affect how your software works.

Compatible

These products have been updated and work well with macOS Big Sur and Catalina.

  • Exposure X4 and newer
  • Blow Up 3
  • Snap Art 4
  • Eye Candy 7

If you have trouble with any of these products, download and reinstall your product version.

  • Current versions
  • Earlier versions

Limited compatibility

These product versions are no longer supported with current macOS operating systems, but can work using the security bypass shown below.

  • Exposure X, X2, and X3 as Photoshop Plug-in (Photoshop 2021 requires custom installation)
  • Exposure X, X2, and X3 as Lightroom Classic External Editor

Not compatible

  • Exposure X3 and earlier in standalone mode
  • Exposure 7 and earlier installers
  • Blow Up 2 and earlier
  • Snap Art 3 and earlier
  • Eye Candy 6 and earlier

Security changes in macOS Big Sur and Catalina prevent these versions from accessing your files. These versions were discontinued before Catalina was introduced and are no longer being developed.

If you own one of these versions there are two options:

  1. Upgrade to the current program version.
  2. Do not upgrade your Mac operating system.

Security Bypass

Some older products will show a warning the first time they run after updating to Catalina or Big Sur. These operating systems added authorization requirements that were not included in older product versions. Use these steps to bypass the warning.

  1. Open System Preferences, choose the Security & Privacy option and select the General tab.
  2. Click the lock icon at the lower left and enter your password to unlock the settings.
  3. Leave this window open in the background.

  4. Launch the plug-in from Photoshop.
  5. When you get a warning, click Cancel.

  6. Go back to the Security & Privacy dialog. You should see an option for Allow Anyway. Click it to proceed.

  7. There are two plug-in tools used in some applications, so you may need to complete steps 5-6 twice.
  8. Once complete, the "cannot be verified" dialog will now have an Open option. Click it and the plug-in can be opened.

  9. Open the plug-in again to ensure that the bypass has worked.
